Play the Summer Reading Game at your neighborhood library! Register online starting May 1st at maricopacountyreads.org or pick up a gameboard at your library. Earn 1 point for every minute of reading! Earn more points for attending fun-filled library events or participating in challenges.
Just for signing up, you can pick a free book to keep from the Friends corner at your library. But, wait, there's more!
  • Parents of Little Ones (birth to 4) get a free tote bag for signing up
  • Children birth to 11 receive a coupon for a free personal pizza from Peter Piper after 500 points
  • Teens and adults receive a coupon for a free taco from Rubio's after 500 points
  • At 1,000 points, everyone receives a free book of their choice
  • GRAND PRIZE DRAWING! Children who earn at least 1,000 points by August 1st are automatically entered into drawings for family memberships at great Phoenix museums (such as the Children's Museum, the Arizona Science Center, the Phoenix Zoo, the Desert Botanical Garden, the Phoenix Art Museum, and the Heard Museum) -- 25 memberships will be awarded!

This program is designed for children two to five years old accompanied by a favorite adult. What is your child learning? Children who can count, recognize geometric shapes and patterns and are eager to explore the world around them will be better prepared to succeed in kindergarten. Your kids are natural scientists. You can help them discover the world, build vocabulary and master basic science concepts.

Native Desert Bees

This workshop empowers you to create an environment that fosters successful native bee populations in gardens, orchards, and natural spaces. Learn about these vital pollinators by reviewing basic information about native bees and their contribution as pollinators, focusing on key species and their life cycles, and reviewing best plants for native bees. Information and examples of how to make your own native bee nest from repurposed materials will be presented so that you can start attracting native bees in your area.

Facilitator is Bill McGuire, a desert gardener, and native bee enthusiast. Bill in on the Board of Directors for Native Seeds/SEARCH, a regional agricultural seed conservation organization based in Tucson, Arizona.
