The Last Bookstores: America's Resurgent Independents 1/22/2016 12:00:00 AM
The Last Bookstores: America's Resurgent Independents
The Last Bookstores: America's Resurgent Independents, Photographs by artist Bryan David Griffith

An opening reception with the artist will be held from 6:30-8:00 PM on Friday, February 5, 2016.

"The Last Bookstores" combines photographs and interviews to document an industry during a time of historic changes. Griffith photographed independent bookstores old and new, large and small, iconic and obscure, in big cities and small towns across America. He spent hours interviewing their owners and staff. Why do they persist when the vast majority of independents have folded in the face of cutthroat competition from chain superstores and online retailers?

We READ 30-day Challenge 2/1/2016 12:00:00 AM
We READ 30-day Challenge
Make reading a habit by taking the challenge to read 20 minutes a day for 30 days. Pick up a We READ gameboard at any Phoenix Public Library and start the challenge between February 1 and March 1. You have until April 1 to finish.

Children who complete the challenge earn a free We READ t-shirt (includes little ones who are read to). Grownups who read to their children also earn a reusable tote bag (perfect for checking out library books!) Reading together with your children is one of the best things you can do to get them off to the right start in school and life. It's easy and fun and doesn't cost a dime.

Check the online calendar for #weread special events in February and March. We READ is sponsored by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Phoenix Public Library Foundation.
