Book Art Display: New Acquistions
The Phoenix Public Library has procured new artist made books thanks to the generous bequest of a book art enthusiast and lover of libraries.  The Silverstein/Montee Endowment for the Book Arts has given us the opportunity to add more treasures to our growing collection.  This is the first time these items have been displayed to the public.

Quinn's Wanderings: Of Books and Cities 8/18/2014 12:00:00 AM
Quinn's Wanderings: Of Books and Cities
Burton Barr Central Library will host an exhibition of mixed media works by Steve Valev, titled “Quinn's Wanderings: Of Books and Cities " at the library’s @Central Gallery, 1221 N. Central Ave. An opening reception with the artist will be held 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Friday, September 5. The band Woodworks will perform, providing a mix of rock, folk, blues, indie and alternative music. The reception is sponsored by Friends of the Phoenix Public Library.

Born in Bulgaria, Valev has lived in Phoenix for the last 23 years. While his background is in architecture and urban design, his interests are in the ways that those fields can engage topics of politics, sociology, economics and everyday life. Less about a particular resolution, the work is an entry into trying to understand these issues. Many times the work is a kind of catalog precariously linking a network of ideas, references and realities.

Valev received his Masters in architecture at Arizona State University. He is an associate at Gould Evans.

Clojure Programming Meetup 8/27/2014 7:00:00 PM
Clojure Programming Meetup
Join us in MACH1 for a recurring Meetup discussion and shared exploration of the Clojure programming language.  As learners, we are particularly interested in investigating the approach that Clojure has taken, and how these concepts can be applied to our work, regardless of what languages we program in.

Some of the concepts we are interested in include immutable data, reduction of side effects, functional programming, and a unified toolset for interacting with data structures.
